Scrabble championship moves to Nottingham

Anyone who wishes to follow recruitment’s very own World Scrabble Champion progress in person as he defends his title will now not have as far to go.

This is because the world championships have been moved from Doha in Qatar to Nottingham.

Current champ Brett Smitheram, a consultant at international talent management, business transformation and executive and board services specialist Mercuri Urval, who won his title in September last year, told Recruiter about the change in venue.

“It starts on 22 August and runs until Sunday 27 August. However, I'm planning to make a guest appearance at the World Youth Championships beforehand,” he said.

“Both tournaments were due to be held in Qatar, but given the political sensitivities over there at the moment, it was decided to hold them in Nottingham instead.”

Good luck, Brett! We’ll be following your progress with interest.
