Tasty role is choc-a-block with job applicants

Didn’t get any chocolates this Valentine’s Day? Fear not! We may have the perfect part-time role for you chocoholics but don’t be (choco-)late with your application.

This is because the maker of brands such as Cadbury and Oreo, Mondelēz International’s latest vacancy for a chocolate taster has already attracted 4,000 applicants since the post was first advertised last week.

The part-time role, based at Mondelez’ Reading Centre Science Centre, requires the successful applicant to test top-secret chocolate bars and cocoa drinks, providing honest feedback to help Mondelez perfect and launch brand new products.

In a statement, a Mondelēz International spokesperson said the firm was ‘choc’d’ by the number of applicants it has received for the role, with 1,500 chocolate fan applicants in the last 24 hours alone.

“We can’t wait to see who makes the cut to join our other 4,000 chocolate-loving employees across the UK who invent, test and make some of the nation’s favourite treats from our sites in Reading, Bournville, Herefordshire, Sheffield, Chirk [in Wales] and beyond.

“It’s also hugely encouraging to see how many people are interested in a consumer science role in the food industry. Food science is an incredibly varied and exhilarating career path, and we believe working with chocolate is pretty sweet!”
