Eight months on from the UK’s vote to leave the European Union, political and economic uncertainty has been ranked as the top challenge facing more than a third of employers.

That is according to the latest JobsOutlook survey from the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC).

The survey shows 36% of employers saw political and economic uncertainty as the top challenge they faced, while for a ninth month in a row, there was a shortage of suitable candidates for permanent roles in the engineering and technical sector. Shortages of permanent roles in health & social care and hospitality were also highlighted in this month’s report.

The survey also found one in five employers plan on increasing perm headcount over the next quarter, with hiring intentions particularly strong in London, while more employers thought economic conditions are improving (33%) than worsening (29%).
