Job share teacher initiative welcomed by education recruiters

Mon, 7 Mar 2016

Recruiters have welcomed a government initiative aimed at helping women return to teaching in job share arrangements.

The government’s new measures, announced yesterday, includes training and personalised coaching for female teachers wishing to return to the profession, as well as a new careers site making it easier for women to search for teaching roles that offer job share, part-time or flexible hours.

Mo Parkin, managing director of Academic Appointments, told Recruiter she welcomes any initiative that keeps teachers in the profession. She added such flexible roles are out there at the moment, as school leaders she speaks to have already given due consideration to flexible working solutions such as job shares for teachers.

Roger Marsh, managing director at education recruiter ITN Mark Education, also welcomed the government’s plans, adding his agency works with teachers who are looking for flexible working arrangements, including job shares.
