New LinkedIn product will predict company fit says VP

Thu, 13 November 2014 | By DeeDee DokeBusiness networking site LinkedIn is piloting a search program that is designed to reveal whether a potential recruit not only has the necessary experience, skills and knowledge for the job but is also a good fit for a particular company.

The program is aimed at detecting patterns within a person’s profile that would predict whether they were likely to be a good long-term hire, said Wade Burgess, vice president – talent solutions at LinkedIn. The resulting product should be available within the first half of 2015, he said.

Burgess was speaking at the fourth annual Talent Connect event yesterday (12 Nov 2014). The event, which combines the atmosphere of an entertainment extravaganza with that of a religious revival, has drawn 1,500 talent acquisition professionals from 50 countries to London’s ExCel exhibition centre this week.

On the two-day conference’s opening day, Burgess reminded attendees that recruitment represents “the single most important decision your company will make: who are you letting into your company?”

Burgess noted that conducting a talent search for the ‘right’ person with the ‘right’ company fit is often compared to finding a needle in a haystack. However, he added, a different metaphor might be more appropriate. He said that it was “more like finding an atom in a hay field”, given that the global workforce is at about 3bn people, and that the one ‘best’ person must be selected from that pool.

The two-day conference continues through today (13 Nov). Featured are case studies and talks by resourcing leaders from top global and UK brands including Ferrari, John Lewis, L’Oreal, Philips and Regus.
