Mon, 22 Sep 2014Malaysian restaurant chain Oldtown White Coffee has come under fire for an allegedly racist job advertisement circulated on social media.

Media outlets in the country report the company is today [22 September] investigating the job advertisement, written by one of its franchisees.

The advertisement began circulating on Friday and stated the chain’s soon-to-be-opened Taman Mount Austin outlet was looking to hire 12 waiting staff, six cooks and four supervisors, with priority being given to Malay and Chinese applicants.

The company received flak on its official Facebook page from people upset about the advertisement.

Harivin Krishnan said: “Is this for malays and chinese only? Coz u ppl dont want us to work in ur outlets, thats why need to be sure if your food is also not available to us or not, RACISTS!!”

In response, the company apologised on behalf of the franchisee for the “unacceptable and offensive content”.

“We will take immediate and appropriate action internally to ensure that this will not happen again.”
