Around 300 jobs will be secured in Cheshire ahead of production of its new Astra model while a second shift will be created at the company’s facility in Bedfordshire, where Vauxhall’s Vivaro vans are built.

"This is great news for Vauxhall and for British manufacturing,” said Vauxhall chairman and managing director Tim Tozer said.

“Both of our UK manufacturing plants have won long contracts with all-new products and as the business strengthens. We now need to take on more people to build these exciting new Vauxhalls.”
