Aerospace Technology Institute to see sector skills soar

The UK government is pledging £1bn to an aerospace industry strategy, which will be met by £1bn match funding from industry, with the creation of an Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) at the centre of the plans.

The UK government is pledging £1bn to an aerospace industry strategy, which will be met by £1bn match funding from industry, with the creation of an Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) at the centre of the plans.
The ATI will allow industry and academic researchers to develop technology for the next generation of quieter, more energy efficient aircraft, and the government estimates that this will secure up to 115,000 high-value jobs in aerospace and its supply chain in the long term.
Technical recruiter Morson International has welcomed the ATI development, with Julian Garratt, managing director of engineering design specialist arm Morson Projects, telling Recruiter the move is “a much needed focus that allows the UK supply chain to continue to maintain its leading position as a world-class supplier of technical services and products”.
Other measures announced in the ‘Lifting Off: Implementing the Strategic Vision for UK Aerospace’ include the creation of an Aerospace Finance Forum set up to see firms work with banks to “tackle access to finance issues faced by the sector - due to the heavy up-front investment costs and long timescales required to make a return”.
Morson operations director Adrian Adair adds: “The UK has got to stay at the forefront of technology, it is our USP now that manufacturing has travelled further East. This collaborative approach to the support of the UK aerospace industry is key to its continuing success, both immediately and in the long term.”
