Recruitment group Randstad has begun formal discussions around restructuring plans for its French operations, with a maximum of 163 voluntary redundancies in management roles as a result of the restructuring.

The company announced in a statement it had entered into formal discussions with the employee representative partners in France about the plan.Currently, Randstad France operates five business units: construction, industry, expert & professionals, logistics & retail and the services industry, but the new agency network will be built on five regions, each integrating the existing industry segments. Large cities will see branches combined into a single multi-sector branch, “thus enabling synergies, increasing commercial opportunities as well as cross-selling and clarifying the scope of activities”, the statement said.

It continued: “In the current challenging market circumstances, the new structure will help to maintain our solid competitive position in the French market.”

France contributed 21% of Randstad’s 2011 group-wide revenue of €16.23bn (£13.06bn), making it the biggest geography for the company for the second year running. For the previous two years, it had been the second-biggest contributor behind Randstad’s homeland, the Netherlands.
