Best job, worst job

We’ve had two interesting job openings coming to our attention this week on Recruiter – one which marketing, creative and advertising recruiter Major Players thinks might be “the best marketing job in the world right now”, and a second which seems rather less attractive.

US paper the New York Observer has called a job at publishing group Dalkey Archive Press “the worst job listing we have ever seen” – while Major Players is a rather more attractive sounding £35k-£45k role as a social media reporter for one of FC Barcelona’s top players.Dalkey’s internship role could be terminated if the successful (lucky?) candidate is found “surfing the internet while at work” or “being unavailable at night or on the weekends”, the paper notes on its website.

The company’s director John O’Brien has told the Irish Times that the advert was “serious and not serious at one and the same time”, and “tongue-in-cheek”, and complains: “I certainly have been called an ‘asshole’ before, but not as many times within a 24-hour period.”

Tongue-in-cheek or not, the company might be wise to keep tabs on a bill recently read to parliament by former cabinet minister Hazel Blears MP that seeks to “prohibit the advertising of long-term unpaid internships”.

Meanwhile, one suspects that there are some people who would probably pay for the privilege of doing the job in Barcelona, which requires a fluent English-Spanish bilingual, and “football passion”.

See the view the full job specification on the Major Players website, and if you do end up getting the job, be sure to let us know! ¡Buena suerte queridos lectores!
