India’s Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) is to take on 250 graduate trainee engineers in 2013 through the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) testing scheme.

According to a job advertisement posted on job board Monster India, the GATE score will be the sole method of selection for the candidates across five disciplines of engineering.

The GATE is jointly conducted by eight higher education institutions – seven Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) universities across the country and the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore.

Candidates must not be older than 25 on 30 June 2013, the job advert notes, and upon completion of training will earn a salary of up to Rs50,000 (£580) a month.

Entry into the GATE examination is Rs1,200 or Rs600 for male applicants, depending on certain criteria – those with a physical disability pay the lower rate – while female candidates are not charged.
