Wed, 25 Jul 2012
Motor manufacturer Toyota’s Canadian operation is to hire around 400 staff as it looks to increase Lexus production at its Cambridge, Ontario facility.
The US$100m (£65m) investment should take place in early 2014, and will see capacity increase by 30,000 vehicles a year to 104,000 units.
This announcement is the latest in a string of new investments by Toyota in North America which have seen 1,500 jobs created across the US and Canada since February, with cumulative investment of around US$745m.
Steve St Angelo, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, says these announcements reflect “our growing optimism for an improving the North American market and our intent to localise more production.”
