Retailer Walmart’s Canadian operation yesterday (25 June) opened 47 hiring centres across the country as part of plans that will see it hire 4,000 workers this year.

The company says it hopes to complete at least 73 projects by the end of the year, which includes the building of new stores, remodellings and expansions, and the conversion of 39 former stores of discount retailer Zellers into Walmart stores.Walmart’s expansion plans include hiring pharmacists from the pharmacy operations of the former Zeller stores, and continues to look to fill roles in this department.

The company’s senior vice president for people says: “Whether you are looking for a career in retail or a part-time job, we want to hear from you.”

Walmart refers to its employees as ‘associates’, and directs anyone interested in career opportunities to its careers website or to contact their local store directly.
