Barker Ross secures waste management contract

Multi-sector recruiter Barker Ross has won a major contract to supply flexible staff to waste management provider Veolia Environmental Services.

Barker Ross will provide staff on a flexible, subcontract basis to cope with peaks in Veolia’s workload. The agency will also focus on supplying local staff to Veolia’s Nottinghamshire sites.

Many of the workers will be supplied to Veolia’s Mansfield Materials Recovery Facility, which was officially opened earlier this year.

Operated on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, the facility is a major part of a waste management contract which is seeking to raise Nottinghamshire’s recycling rate to at least 52% by 2020.

Kevin Parker of Veolia says the company took its commitment to providing jobs for local people very seriously and would, where possible, use flexible staff from the Mansfield area when working with Barker Ross to meet peaks in demand.

Parker adds: “We are committed to being a responsible and caring neighbour in the communities in which we operate, with recruitment of local people high on our list of priorities.

“We look forward to working in partnership with Barker Ross to ensure we have a flexible workforce in place to supplement our existing teams as and when the need arises.”

It is not yet known how many staff will be supplied to the Mansfield facility as numbers are expected to fluctuate in line with demand.

Barker Ross is also to supply locally-based staff to Veolia’s Sheffield site and is working with Action for Employment and the Jobcentre to place candidates.

Veolia offers a wide range of waste management services to local authorities and commercial businesses and employs 93,000 people worldwide.
