What the Maritime Labour Convention means for seafaring recruitment

The coming into force on 20 August 2013 of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 has led to greater employment protections for a large majority of the world’s seafarers, but has also led to greater contractual, financial and administrative burdens being placed on the shoulders of the world’s ship-owners, and in particular on the crew management and marine recruitment companies supporting these ship owners.
