Charity case rings an ethical warning

Oxfam’s discovery that the Chinese supplier of its wristbands was a sweatshop has reopened a debate on whether CSR is workable. Liam O’Brien reports

Of all the organisations that could stand accused of using forced labour, Oxfam would seem to be the least likely. But the charity, which has often accused others of using forced labour in developing countries, has itself been castigated for buying “Make Poverty History” wristbands from a less than ethical supplier in China.
