It’s goodnight from ASTRiiD’s founder… but a good future for his charity
In a service punctuated with songs by Pink Floyd, Queen and ELO (Electric Light Orchestra), the life of Recruiter’s Charity of the Year founder David Shutts OBE was celebrated Friday in Surfleet, South Lincolnshire.
The standing room-only crowd laughed and wiped tears away during the service, in which his son Zachary offered a reading, and close friends and shipmates from his Royal Navy days and his brother Steve shared anecdotes of the accomplished engineer, naval officer and ASTRiiD founder.
A demonstration of Shutts’ irreverence was spelled out in a floral tribute at the end of his coffin – FFS, an acronym for his favourite expression of frustration…
ASTRiiD is a charity connecting businesses with people, who have long-term health problems but who still have many skills to offer employers. It was voted Recruiter’s Charity of the Year for 2018-19 by Recruiter voters last spring.
Recruiter editor DeeDee Doke, who attended the celebration of Shutts’s life, said: “In spite of the deep sadness and sense of loss that everyone clearly felt, you couldn’t help but smile and feel uplifted and inspired at hearing the stories of this wonderful life.
“At Recruiter, we want to help ASTRiiD continue the meaningful work that David Shutts began and contribute to a living legacy of putting great people back into work.”
