Tue, 10 Dec 2013Several NHS and medical organisations are in the early stages of creating a new campaign aimed at recruiting retired nurses back into work.
The project is being led by Health Education England (HEE), the NHS body which describes itself on its website as “England’s health and healthcare people service”.
This story was first reported this weekend (8 December) by the Daily Mirror. However, while this story suggested retired nurses would be receiving letters in January, a spokesperson for HEE says the project is still “very early days” and that there is no such timetable in place.
HEE says its director of nursing Lisa Bayliss-Pratt will chair a steering group including the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), NHS Employers, sector regulatory Monitor, the National Trust Development Authority, NHS England and other local acute and community partners.
NHS Employers tells recruiter.co.uk that as an organisation is “broadly does support” this kind of initiative, and has already run similar campaigns to assist NHS bodies in bringing people back into work.
However, an NMC spokesperson told recruiter.co.uk yesterday (9 December) that the Daily Mirror story was the first it had heard of the project, and that it had yet to be officially invited.
