Recruitment agencies polled well in Sunday Times Best Companies survey

Recruitment firm Office Angels has jumped to eighth place in the Sunday Times’ 100 best companies to work for 2008 poll.

The office and secretarial specialist founded in 1986, and part of the Adecco Group, advanced six positions from 14th place last year.

The 2008 awards are based on the opinions of more than 180,000 employees across 868 companies. Other recruitment firms listed against their 2007 rankings included Hill McGlynn 17 (12), Computer People 22 (84), Jobs@pertemps 35 (78), SThree 36 (24), Michael Page International 39 (60), Select Group 44 (86), Hydrogen Group 45 (15), Search Consultancy 49 (-), Huntress 75 (76) and Robert Half 85 (22).

Notable advancements in the rankings included another Adecco brand, Computer People, who jumped 62 places on last year’s results, while Select Group bested their 2007 ranking by 42 positions.

Diane Martyn, Select Group’s chief executive officer, said: "It’s a real team effort with Select Group scoring well about caring about their colleagues – this question scored 84% positive. Staff also [responded] well when asked about what fun they had with their workmates (83%), as 80% felt that they make a valuable contribution to the success of the firm."

Martyn was also delighted with the breakdowns in terms of her workers’ development as a whole, she said: "Select are committed to developing [our people] and offer everyone training and personal effectiveness courses, so it’s no wonder that employees feel that their job is good for their own personal growth (81%) and feel fully involved at work (80%)."

She concluded: "We are in the fortunate position to make a difference to people’s lives every single day by helping them find a job, [but] I am also dedicated to making a difference to our employees by providing a great workplace."
