Tell us something we don’t know!

I’ve just read your item entitled ‘Adecco chief executive expects sales decline in 2009’ (recruiter.co.uk, 7 January). Wow… talk about stating the obvious! Who is worse, Adecco for the pathetic press release or Recruiter for printing it?

Underground mobile use not that beneficial

With reference to your story ‘Glasgow recruiters welcome the introduction of subway mobile communication’ (recruiter.co.uk, 7 January),
what a lot of nonsense. The Glasgow Underground is hardly the largest in the world and the amount of time that any one is out of
touch is hardly going to affect the response time to candidates. I honestly cannot see any significant business advantage of having mobile phone reception in the Clockwork Orange. Now decent reception in normal trains — that would be a real plus.

Understand the sector, ASWEB

In response to your story ‘ASWEB welcomes government plans for social work taskforce’ (recruiter.co.uk, 12 December 2008), the
Baby P case wasn’t caused by agency workers… And by implying that it was, ASWEB seems to be using the death of a child to promote their own importance. If they understood the challenges of the sector, they would be talking about agency workers’ supervision and reflective
practice. Not how they are recruited.

Self-regulation in social care is cynical

In your item, ‘ASWEB members to be audited in the New Year’ (recruiter.co.uk, 22 December 2008), one wonders: formally audited by whom?

One also wonders whether the organisations in charge of ASWEB have sufficient insight into social work and knowledge of the regulation to attempt such a thing.

If the industry is serious about raising the bar and demonstrating a high standard for safeguarding vulnerable children and adults (who strangely aren’t mentioned in ASWEB’s press release), it should campaign for Ofsted and CSCI [Commission for Social Care Inspection] to audit it on behalf of the government.

Self-regulation in this sector is absolutely cynical and presents a danger to vulnerable people.
