Men are paid an average of 18.5% more than women, according to a study by job site reed.co.uk.

The Great British Salary Survey which polled more than 6,000 UK workers, found that, on average, male workers working full or part time earn £27,241, compared to £22,988 for female staff.

The survey also reveals 24% of men who took part in the survey reported were earning over £30,000 a year compared to only 12% of women.

Martin Warnes, managing director of reed.co.uk, says: “While the signs are promising in some industry sectors, employers still risk missing out on the full potential of female staff by not rewarding them equally.”
