Soundbites

In what ways are you helping your staff adapt to the changing business environment?

John Robinson
Managing director, Scantec Personnel “Scantec runs an intensive training programme for all new recruits to ensure they are of the standard which we expect within our company. This includes one-on-one workshops with the trainer to develop particular skills. In 2009,we are placing a particular focus on management training, incorporating leadership and motivation. Crucially, we believe work should be fun and our staff clearly enjoy the competitive aspect. We incentivise our staff by giving them the chance to win prizes for best performance within their peer groups.”

Sue Pilgrim
Managing director, TRB (MacPeople) “As most of the TRB team haven’t worked in tighter market conditions, communicating regularly, providing reassurance and practical support in terms of how to maximise opportunities, is essential. We held focused ‘strategy days’ atthe end of last year in the UK and Sydney, with ‘credit crunch busting’ being the main theme. This helps everyone get involved and share ideas to help combat the market. We also hold regular company updates and social events to keep everyone motivated to meet the challenges of 2009 head on!”

Jeremy Bogush
Director, Xcede Recruitment Solutions “The current economic climate has caused a shift from a candidate-driven to a clientdriven market. Although we’ve always adopted a client-focused approach, now, more than ever, our sales teams need to understand how to develop and manage client relationships effectively. We are investing in training staff on how to develop new business by identifying, researching and qualifying the best opportunities. We try to give employees a realistic perspective on market and sector trends, rather than relying on media hype.”

Tim Smeaton
Chief executive, Hydrogen Group “In a market where the focus is finding jobs rather than candidates, it has been foremost to ensure our training refreshes and enhances relevant skills such as business development. In line with this, our head of Training and Recruitment reviews every stage of our recruitment process to ensure day-to-day activity is focused in the right areas. We have also introduced new incentives to reward those who successfully adapt their activity and deliver high performance.”
