Service sector sales slump
The prospects of economic received a setback after a survey by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) revealed an unexpected fall in sales within the services sector.
The survey found almost half (48%) said that in the past three months sales and profits had fallen. Only 21% said profits had risen.
Ian McCafferty, the CBI’s chief economic adviser, describes the falls in sales and profits “worrying”.

Although many of our clients are finding trade tough, we are seeing workflow increase through both upskilling existing talent, and planning ahead for growth 2010. The short-term challenge is confidence in leaving current employers, although we have started to see this shift in a positive way since October.
