Recruiters reluctant to move
As the country emerges from recession, recruiters are choosing to stay put rather than seeking pastures new, according to Samantha Woodland, senior HR business partner at Kelly Services.
Woodland told Recruiter: “Many recruitment agencies took the large volume of skilled professionals who were available during the recession for granted, so the major issue facing recruitment - as well as other industries - is the current talent shortage.
“Hiring costs are increasing as talented individuals are looking to consolidate their current position rather than moving on. As such, the workforce is likely to become less transient than it was in 2007.
“In fact, a recent Kelly survey found that 34% of people feel more loyal to their current employer than they did before the recession, highlighting the fact that people think that ‘staying put’ could be the best plan for their career at this time.”

I believe the headline to be slightly misleading. I work in the recruitment-to-recruitment business, and despite the new-found loyalty to current employers people are still moving. We are rapidly expanding as a business and are continuously breaking our own revenue records, which is a large indicator of people moving around in the industry. I believe that recruitment companies with a real desire to grow are using more “aggressive” techniques in order to attract the now loyal recruiters. Better basic salaries, better commissions and better working lives are being offered, and something at Red Ventures that we’re finding is that loyalty inevitably does have its price. Expanding recruitment businesses are looking at a more search-focused solution and rather than a contingent solution, however, and this could be why the rest of the recruitment-to-recruitment world are finding it tougher to generate revenue and move loyal consultants.

Now is the time to move for top quality senior candidates. If they have ridden out the recession while still billing good numbers the opportunity to step up to the managerial bar, take on a new division or desk and ultimately increase their personal earnings is theirs for the taking.
Here at SRS Consulting we are seeing the large scale of fantastic opportunities that are on offer and the high quality of consultant whether taken for granted by their current employer or in need of pastures green ready to take on the challenge.
