Public sector in for ‘very difficult time’, says Swindon Borough Council HR director
The public sector is in for a ‘very difficult’ time whoever wins the next election, according to Jack Markiewicz, lead officer on talent management at the Public sector People Managers’ Association and HR director at Swindon Borough Council.
Following this week’s BBC survey which revealed that 10% of public sector local government jobs could be cut, Markiewicz told Recruiter that finance was bound be reduced in local government.
“There will be an across the board cut which will cover all areas of Swindon’s operation, so not focused upon one area.
“The impact will be that the most vulnerable in our communities, such as the elderly and young at risk, will be affected.
“The secret is to work in collaboration more and to share services more effectively. Central government can help with making shared conditions of service easier to introduce and to encourage greater secondments and movement across local and central government.”
