REC to bring in health screening

Agencies will be required to ensure that all medical candidates undergo health screening as part of a new code of conduct by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.

Robert Carlin, business management director at occupational health solutions provider Healthier Business, which is working on the project with the REC, said the new code could appear by the end of the year.

It will be fully compliant with new discrimination legislation.

Carlin said: "We are going to bring the code of practice up to date in terms of NHS PASA and NHS employer standards, to ensure business is conducted more ethically so there is no risk to placing locums."
