Changing Faces launches survey into disfigurement discrimination at work

Changing Faces has launched a survey into the experiences of those with disfigurement in the workplace, to make employers and policy-makers aware of the issue.

The charity represents the 400,000 people in the UK with disfigurements, and says in its experience, people with disfigurements are often denied equal rights and opportunities, which falls foul of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

A previous public opinion survey for Changing Faces showed that 85% of the British public thinks that people with disfigurements are likely to be discriminated against and 91% considered that a facial disfigurement would be a significant obstacle to getting or keeping a customer-facing job.

Changing Faces wants to ensure that adults who have a disfigurement have equal opportunities in the workplace – whether at a job interview for a customer-facing role or getting a promotion.
