McLaren’s new Sheffield base creates skilled manufacturing jobs

UK supercar manufacturer McLaren is to create 200 highly skilled jobs at a new £50m factory in Yorkshire.

The Daily Mail reports the new plant, built on the site of an old coal mine, will manufacture the carbon fibre ‘tubs’ – or chassis – for its cars, such as the 570S.

According to the paper, McLaren is shifting manufacturing of the component from Austria to Sheffield, home of the University of Sheffield’s advanced manufacturing research centre (AMRC), which helps develop McLaren cars.
