Two arrested in West Midlands over GLAA investigation into worker exploitation

Two men have been arrested by investigators from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) in connection with the alleged exploitation of workers.

In a statement the GLAA revealed warrants were executed at two homes in Birmingham and Wolverhampton early this morning (21 March) in an operation supported by West Midlands Police.

The two men, both Romanian nationals, are being held on suspicion of acting as an unlicensed gangmaster contrary to section 12 of the Gangmasters Licensing Act.

The GLAA revealed it acted following concerns from an unnamed West Midlands recruitment agency that workers were being controlled and exploited. The two men are being held at a police station where they will be questioned later today.
