Florida attraction recruits mermaids for its shows

Would you like to work under the sea or is Ariel the Little Mermaid your hero? Then swim this way – we have just the role for you.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Florida Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is holding auditions tomorrow (13 January) for its world-famous mermaid squad, which currently includes 17 performing mermaids and three princes (no, really).

Mermaids perform underwater year-round in 72 deg spring water from the head of the Weeki Wachee river.

For the ‘interview’ process, candidates face a 300 yard (274m) endurance swim and up to 15 minutes of treading water, with successful candidates subsequently invited back for an underwater audition, where they’ll have to show they can move like mermaids.

Good luck and hope you all have a splashing time…
