Recruitment M&As down on previous year

Merger & acquisition activity in the recruitment sector is markedly down on last year.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics, released this week, reveal the number of deals involving UK companies was down on a quarterly basis from 214 in Q1 17 to 155 in Q2 17.

Mark Maunsell, associate director, business services market intelligence at corporate finance firm Clearwater International, told Recruiter current M&A activity in the UK recruitment sector is in line with the ONS data.

“Despite recruitment firms sitting on record levels of capital to deploy on acquisitions, buyers continue to remain cautious about UK deal making.

“Recruitment deal levels are approximately tracking 20% behind the previous year.

“We do, however, continue to see strong interest from private equity groups who are seeking differentiated platforms of scale with demonstrable growth potential and selective trade parties focused on plugging geographic and sector holes.”
