Recruitment consultant gets celebs to video messages for friends’ wedding

A recruitment consultant has managed to persuade the likes of comedian Matt Lucas, F1 driving ace Jenson Button and perhaps most impressively of all Neighbours’ Dr Karl Kennedy to appear in a video played during his recent best man speech.

Over the weekend a number of UK papers picked up a story about how Euan Gibson, the managing director of global sports and entertainment staffing specialist Gibson Global Search, approached a number of celebrities on Twitter asking them to film a 10-second video wishing his friends Tim and Charlotte Hockley well on their wedding day in France earlier this month, with the promise of £10 donated to children’s charity Dreamflight for every video submitted.

“It’s something I’d thought of a while ago in the age of Twitter and being able to approach celebrities. It just started as a bit of a joke really,” Gibson told Recruiter.

“I sent out a few tweets and almost immediately I got a video back from Jake Humphrey, the TV sports presenter. He sent a really great funny video back and I thought there’s obviously some mileage in this.

“Every now and then I’d blast out a tweet to various people. By the time the wedding came round I had 14 videos, so I put together a show-reel.”

Gibson added the understanding of social media gained in his career as a recruiter, in terms of how to reach out to people on Twitter, certainly helped in his pursuit of willing celebrity participants.

And the good news is the video, which featured as part of Gibson’s best man speech, was certainly well received at the couple’s wedding reception.

“I did it as part of my speech. I said there’s a few people who couldn’t make it to the event, who have kindly recorded a short video – I’ll play it for you now.

“It was the big reveal, and the shock and surprise of 14 UK celebrities sending their best wishes. People loved it. People were obviously shocked by it.

“I think the first person on the video was Matt Lucas and you could see people looking at each other thinking ‘Do Tim and Charlotte know Matt Lucas?’. And then it kept going and going, and then people realised what it was. I had a lot of people come up to me and saying how on Earth did you do that?

“Tim and Charlotte loved it as well – they really did.”
