BBC Scotland channel creates 80 journalist jobs

Eighty new journalist jobs are to be created through the BBC’s launch of a new TV channel dedicated to Scotland.

In a statement released yesterday, the BBC said the new channel would have a £30m budget, around the same budget as BBC4, and would feature a Scottish news hour at 9pm broadcasting stories from Scotland, the UK and the world.

Meanwhile, 80 new journalist jobs are being created, while £19m has been allocated to the channel in new money and £11m from programmes currently made for BBC Two in Scotland.

The channel will broadcast from 7pm to midnight every evening from autumn 2018.
