Seven out of 10 potential recruits for prison officer roles in Hong Kong are finding they are unfit for the role – literally.

The South China Morning Post reports the pass rate on the first stage of the recruitment process for prison officer roles, which involves strenuous physical challenges, averages just 30%.

Consequently, Hong Kong’s Correctional Services Department has urged hopefuls to be better prepared in the run-up to the next recruitment drive.

The reports add the department needs to recruit new, fit employees due to hundreds of their 6,000-strong staff retiring or leaving their positions each year, with 240 places needing to be filled this year.
