Police were called to a job interview day in Bangalore, India’s Silicon Valley, after more than 8,000 applicants turned up.

According to the Bangalore Mirror, HCL Technologies had 1,200 trainee engineer roles on offer.

With the interview process set to begin at 10am on Sunday, 24 January, people from across the country began queuing from about 7am.

Forced to begin the process earlier, HCL opened its doors for 800 to take the written test at 9am.

But by 9.30, the crowd had grown so much, the company cancelled the walk-in interview and called in armed police to help calm the crowd.

The company has asked the aspiring applicants to submit CVs.
