Quantum leap for government to train engineers in innovation

The government has committed up to £15m to train new quantum engineers to build ‘innovative’ new products like 6G smartphones, according to a statement from the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills.
Mon, 23 Mar 2015The government has committed up to £15m to train new quantum engineers to build ‘innovative’ new products like 6G smartphones, according to a statement from the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills.

The statement reveals funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the UK's main agency for funding research in engineering and the physical sciences, will be used to create a number of quantum technologies skills hubs across the UK.

These hubs will work in partnership with industry to deliver training and career development programmes for PhD students.

The investment follows today’s publication of a national strategy from government to stimulate growth in quantum technologies in the UK that highlights the “billion-pound” potential for the UK as a world leader in this field.
