The site, which launched last year, enables students to demonstrate “soft skills”, such as communication, initiative, interacting with customers and teamworking, by uploading content to their own profiles. Users then tag the content, whether it is a blog, picture at work, PowerPoint presentation from an assignment talk at university or a video, with the demonstrated skill.

Employers that are signed up to the site can then search profiles and applications, with Kloodle working like Google to bring skill-relevant candidates to the top of their list. Firms can also create their own profiles where they can upload content, including job vacancies, or create groups where students can interact with their employees.

Since last September, when Kloodle began marketing its services, much of its 5,000-strong user population has comprised university students and graduates, but the site is now moving to target sixth-form colleges, Hayes told Recruiter.

“A lot of the corporates we’ve spoken to are interested in college students and are trying to start marketing their [recruitment] activities a lot earlier in the process,” he said.

“We have been targeting colleges in the last month and have got six colleges in the North-West, so we’re going to have 20,000 students coming on board in the next four weeks.”
