Scottish Parliament presiding officer Tricia Marwick yesterday (5 November) announced an apprenticeship scheme, which would employ 20 young people.

Apprentices will be given opportunities to work in various sectors including visitor services, events, security, HR and IT.

In making the announcement, Marwick said: “The Scottish Parliament is an employer in its own right and we hope to lead by example.”

The parliament piloted an apprenticeship scheme two years ago.

It intends to recruit 11 apprentices next year and nine in 2017. The apprenticeships will run for 24 months.
