Tesco gives Armed Forces employment support

Tesco has agreed to support Armed Forces veterans into employment, and also help spouses and partners of serving personnel to get jobs at stores in areas with large armed forces communities.
Thu, 30 Oct 2014Tesco has agreed to support Armed Forces veterans into employment, and also help spouses and partners of serving personnel to get jobs at stores in areas with large armed forces communities.

The support forms part of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant that the retailing giant has signed up to. It is the first supermarket, and the largest employer in the country so far, to sign up to the covenant to do more to support the military community.

More than 300 companies have agreed to offer more supportive employment terms and conditions.

As well as the veterans and partners of existing personnel, the retailer is committing to promoting reserve service among its employees and giving special consideration to holiday requests from spouses before, during and after their partner’s deployment.

UK defence secretary Michael Fallon says: “It is great to see one of the UK’s major employers recognise the immense benefits that reservists and former service personnel can bring to the private sector.”

Tesco joins several high street names, including Barclays, BT and Liverpool FC, that have pledged to find ways to support serving personnel, veterans, reservists as well as their families.
