Thu, 30 Oct 2014A new Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plant, which will be opened by the Queen today [30 October], will employ 1,400 people.

The £500m engine manufacturing centre, based in Wolverhampton, will create a further 5,500 jobs in the supply chain. It will cover three counties: Wolverhampton, South Staffordshire and Staffordshire.

The car manufacturer also opened a factory in China this month [October].

However, the opening of the new plants comes at a time when JLR could face industrial action. A spokesperson from Unite told Recruiter that workers were currently being consulted on the car manufacturer’s latest offer. Workers have been offered a three-year wage deal, including a 3.6% pay rise in the first year and a performance-linked bonus.
