Annemarie Muntz, president of Ciett, the international confederation of private employment services (PrES), is visiting Brazil and Argentina to highlight the need for tighter and more appropriate recruitment industry regulation.

Muntz will be meeting industry leaders and policy makers to call for regulation that promotes workers’ rights while allowing employment and recruitment agencies to conduct their business and play their role on the labour market.

Since her election in May this year, Muntz has already visited China and India, underlining the importance of the so-called BRICS countries for the employment and recruitment industry.

While in South America, Muntz will also be supporting the national federations of both countries (Sindeprestem for Brazil and FAETT for Argentina) in their work, and helping them align with Ciett’s priorities – representing the interests of a reputable global employment and recruitment industry.

Prior to the trip, Muntz said: “Regulation in Latin America is outdated, and still puts restrictions on our industry. Temporary agency work is systematically discriminated [against] vis-a-vis other forms of flexible labour, such as fixed-term contracts. Appropriate legislation is an important prerequisite to allow our industry to provide decent work for numerous people.

“Europe, the US and Japan still account for 82% of the global employment and recruitment market, but the BRICS countries are essential to the future development of the industry.”
