Jobseekers prefer to go up North

The North of England is more popular with jobseekers than the South, according to research commissioned by digital marketing recruitment agency The Candidate.
Fri, 5 Sep 2014The North of England is more popular with jobseekers than the South, according to research commissioned by digital marketing recruitment agency The Candidate.

Its study found that 54% of employees would choose to work in a Northern city if they were given the choice, compared to 46% who would be willing to relocate to London.

The report speculated that the North of England had become more desirable since BBC opened its base at MediaCityUK in Salford, which has encouraged growth in sectors such as production, technology development and digital media.
According to Brian Matthews, managing partner of The Candidate, the digital skills shortage in the North of England meant that many businesses were offering competitive relocation packages to lure talent from further afield.
