Rules for working in the Magic Kingdom

Fri, 25 Jul 2014 Bored with your current job? Want to try your hand at something completely different? How about a job at Disney’s theme parks?

Although it may sound like a great way to spend your working hours, the Mail Online highlights that recruits need to be aware there are a few magic rules that may make the prospect of working in the Magic Kingdom more akin to Fairyland.

Here’s the top 10 rules for employees:

1.    There’s no ‘I don’t know’ to any question: if in doubt they have to phone a friend (an operator in this instant)
2.    Don’t break character: each actor much never deviate from the role they are playing. They are trained to even sign autographs in the style of the character
3.    Never point with just one finger. Reasons? It’s rude and two fingers make it easier for children to see
4.    Staff must pick up rubbish whenever they see it. However, they have to gracefully pick it up using a sweeping motion (no, really)
5.    You have to look the part: even though you may be enveloped in an oversized costume, cast members are required to look the right way to play their character
6.    No tweeting allowed: no matter how great you feel playing Goofy, you can’t use social media to tell your mates about it
7.    Best behaviour at all times: probably usual for most companies. But how about no mobiles, no frowning – and stand up straight (no bad posture)!
8.    The Disney Look: these are ‘appearance standards’. For men, hair must be 'neatly cut on the back and sides, forming a smooth, symmetrical appearance so that it does not extend beyond or cover any part of the ears or the shirt collar', according to the Disney website. And women should neatly comb their hair and arrange it 'in a classic, easy-to-maintain style’. Both men and women are required to keep their nails clean and must keep them cut to a certain length
9.    No tats or piercings: no body alteration is allowed. However, tattoos are tolerated as long as they’re covered at all times
10.    Through the looking glasses: glasses and sunglasses should be of a ‘conservative colour and style’ without branding, so forget your Ray-Bans or Gucci glasses.

So if you still feel like becoming part of the magic, follow the rules and don’t take the Mickey…
