It has been confirmed that construction support services provider Carillion and construction company Balfour Beatty are in talks about a possible merger.

A statement from Carillion said that work is underway to “develop a strategy and outline business plan for a combined entity”.

It also said that Carillion approached Balfour Beatty regarding what the Daily Telegraph has described as a £3.05bn merger.

Recruiter contacted SkyBlue Recruitment Solutions – the construction, highways and utilities recruitment arm of Carillion – to see what the implications of such a move would be on the how the recruitment of staff would be managed going forward. But the firm’s director and general manager Chris Bell said it was too early to comment.
