A man was arrested last Friday [6 June] on suspicion of rape and human-trafficking charges, after he allegedly assaulted a woman who answered a job posting on classified advertisement website Craigslist, the Philadelphia police have said.
Online news site CBS Philly reports that Kevin Cornish tricked an 18-year-old woman into applying for a home health job. However, she declined the job after going to his home to fill out paperwork and discovering the job was for an escort service.
When she protested, she was allegedly forced to take off her clothes and then raped.
Having searched the suspect’s apartment, police are now looking into evidence that as many as 50 other women may have been involved in a human-trafficking ring after finding numerous applications for the so-called escort service.
Police superintendent Michael Chitwood called the suspect a "true predator" and advised members of the public to “be careful with ads on Craigslist and similar sites”.
