Job advertisements in New Zealand increased by 17.3% in May, compared with the same period last year, according to online marketplace SEEK.

SEEK said more than 26,000 jobs were posted on the site in May. Job growth is driven by activity in the region of Canterbury, which had a 3.8% increase in job ads, along with Auckland, where ads rose 3.7%.

The SEEK Employment Index, which measures the ratio of ads placed to the number of applications for each job, increased by 3.8 in May; offsetting a 4.1% fall in April.
