More vacancies than jobseekers in 20 cities, says Adzuna

Thu, 26 Jun 2014
Twenty UK cities now have more vacancies than jobseekers, according to the latest Adzuna Jobs Report.

The classified ad search engine found that Cambridge was the best place to find a job, with seven vacancies for each job hunter.

Based on advertised vacancies, competition for jobs was at a six-year low, Adzuna said. Vacancies had increased by a fifth in the year to May, with towns in struggling areas of Northern England recovering at the fastest pace.

On the Wirral in the North-East, there were 17 jobseekers for each position compared with 56 a year ago. And there were also significant falls in Hull, Salford, Sunderland and Rochdale.

Advertised salaries grew for the second consecutive month, up 0.6% to £32,376, with the booming IT and engineering sectors up 5.1% and 4.7% respectively.

But there was gloom in the retail sector, where salaries declined by 8.6% year-on-year to £27,138 in May.

I think that we are all of the understanding, that just because a position is advertised - does not mean the position is a live or genuine job opportunity!......
