Hundreds of jobseekers queued for over an hour at a cannabis job fair in Denver, Colorado on Thursday [13 March].
Hosted by vaporiser company O.PenVape, the job fair played host to 15 cannabis-related local businesses seeking qualified individuals in the areas of management, retail, sales, marketing, accounting, IT, quality control, administration and horticulture.
“Inside the cannabis industry, we are focused on professional, qualified people – just like any other industry,” O.penVape chief revenue officer Todd Mitchem told The Denver Post.
“We won't be impressed if someone says, ‘I've been smoking all morning, and I can still talk’.”
Many of the businesses which attended the event are ancillary to the cannabis industry, and thus do not require a Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) badge for hire.
A badge requires a criminal background check and confirmation of Colorado residency. It is obtained through the state MED and, depending on the job, costs $75 (£45) or $250.
However, positions where the employee will be in direct contact with cannabis will require a marijuana occupational licence.
As Recruiter reported last month, perhaps this could have been an event for the recruiter who was caught growing the drug at his home to attend…
