Candidate shortage in construction delays housebuilding

A shortage of construction workers is delaying housebuilding, according to the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), with 36% of respondents having trouble finding staff.

Recruiter.co.uk spoke to one construction recruiter, who echoes RICS’s findings. Andy Nash, manager of construction recruiter Workmates in Reading, says: “The work has picked up and we’ve just experienced our best summer ever. It’s become a fight with other agencies for workers.”
Nash adds he could have place 50 more workers if the candidates were available and that the skill shortages included bricklayers and painters.
