Survey says Singapore staff see salaries on the up

Singaporean firms are increasing headcount and look set to up employees’ wages, says professional recruiter Berkley Recruitment.
Wed, 6 Nov 2013Singaporean firms are increasing headcount and look set to up employees’ wages, says professional recruiter Berkley Recruitment.

This is according to a survey of 737 Singaporean professionals from the recruitment firm, which operates across Europe and Asia-Pacific. It formally launched in the UK last April.

It found 99% of respondents expecting an increase in salary of some sort in the coming months – up from just 29% in a survey in March.

The report, available in full from Berkley Recruitment's website, shows 58% of respondents noting an increase in roles within their business – up from 41% this time last year.

This, Berkley reports, comes ahead of new labour laws coming into force next August, which will require companies operating in the city-state to give priority to locals in the recruitment process, a policy which will likely increase competition for talent.

As reported by recruiter.co.uk last month, Singapore is the only non-Western nation ranked in the top 10 of the new Mercer-World Economic Forum human capital index.
